GMC Trucks Will Be CNG Ready By 2012

GMC trucks are headed into the future with a novel way to power their engines. Soon, vehicles rolling onto the lots of Walser Buick GMC - Roseville, located at 2775 Long Lake Road in Roseville, MN 55113, will have a CNG options. What's it stand for? Compressed Natural Gas.

Vehicles like GMC Sierra are being tested by General Motors as we speak, for release by 2012. Also, the GMC Savanna cargo van is being tested with this technology.

CNG is produced by compressing natural gas to less than 1% of the volume it occupies. It is typically stored and distributed in hard, spherical containers. These future "bi-fuel" commercial pickups will be covered by GM's three-year, 36,000-mile limited warranty, as well as a five-year, 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty.

"Customers want a choice when it comes to fuel because it helps them manage their business costs," said Brian Small, GM Fleet and Commercial Operations General manager.

"We listened and we are going to move fast to bring a bi-fuel CNG product to market to meet our customer's needs. GM's original equipment is engineered, validated and warranted which makes the decision to purchase our bi-fuel pick-up trucks easy," said Joyce Mattman, director, GM Commercial Product and Specialty Vehicles. "Like our CNG vans, this turnkey product will be the best solution in the market and makes good business sense."1
